My brain is a bit jumbled up at the moment. Between the recent responsibilities and struggles of life, this blog has taken most of the heat, although I have been publishing less on my other blog and commenting less on everybody else's blogs. Nevertheless, I am not going to let my triusty Lord of the Rings blogdie a slow and cruel death.
I'm a little bit confuddled on the topic of LOTR right now (it's been numerous months since I've read the books or watched the movies, so I can't remember with sharp vividness the finer details). However, I was watching a sketch comedy show the other day known as Studio C, and the makers of the show do multiple sketches on the topic of Lord of the Rings. And though none of them are serious (of course), they're still hilarious for those of us who understand LOTR enough.
Here are two sketches from the show that I particularly like, though for different reasons:
This sketch is just plain funny to me. It does kind of seem like Gandalf makes the quests as hard as possible, but I'm sure Tolkien knew what he was doing when writing the books. Jason Gray is the man who plays Gandalf in this one, and for reference, he's a master at both impersonations and keeping character.
Again, Gothmog the Orc is played by Jason. If you're an LOTR nerd and have read the books, then you would know that very briefly mentioned is Gothmog, a Lieutenant of Morgul. Interestingly enough, though his name is not mentioned in the movies and he is just briefly talked about in the books, he has his own Wiki Page. This is what an Orc (identified as Gothmog) from the Helm's Deep scene in Return of the King:
The accuracy on this sketch is surprisingly good. I didn't even realize it until I read The Return of the King a couple months ago.
Well, I totally nerded out there for a second. The important thing is to enjoy the comedy (assuming that's your thing). It was nice to get some post material across, even if I had to reach a little bit for it. Hopefully I should be able to get more across presently, but for now,
Farewell, and may the blessing of Elves and Men and all Free Folk go with you. May the stars shine upon your faces!
